What is the best over the counter drug to use for cramping?
I had the Mirena IUC inserted in me last week and I’ve been having bad cramps, which is one side effect of the Mirena. What over the counter drug is the most effective for killing the cramp pain I am having?
Midol….I LLOVEEE it…get the extra strength…I like it way more than Pamprin.
all meds can affect each differently, try the new extra strength pamprin!
I also had the Mirena IUD, and my doc said to take 800mg of Ibuprofen, and also Calcium. It is supposed to be a “smooth muscle’ relaxant.
Here is some info I found on MotherNature.com
Check out calcium. “Does your diet consist mainly of low-calcium foods like fruits and vegetables? Then make a special point of seeking out low-fat yogurt and low-fat milk,” recommends James G. Penland, Ph.D., a psychologist with the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Human Nutrition Research Center in Grand Forks, North Dakota.
At least four different studies have shown that calcium offers strong relief from menstrual cramps. Yet, on average, American women tend to consume only about 600 milligrams of calcium daily. (The Recommended Dietary Allowance is 800 milligrams.)
In one USDA research project, Dr. Penland found that women who consumed 1,300 or more daily milligrams of calcium reported a reduction in menstrual cramps. Not only did they report less pain, but also less water retention, improved moods and better concentration.
“One cup of low-fat yogurt will give you about 400 milligrams of calcium, and there are about 300 milligrams in a cup of low-fat milk,” Dr. Penland says.
Do not go for any over the counter medicine. Consult a good homoeopath who will treat you constitutionally. In homoeopathy there are good remedies such as cuprum met or mag phos etc. It requires proper case study and then prescribe the correct remedy with correct potency.
