El Paso lawmakers move to legalize marijuana
Home Smoking
City councilors in El Paso will consider a resolution to condemn the violence across the border in Juarez. But some councilors want to go a step further, and as a city, call for the legalization of marijuana. The El Paso Times reports several city councilors say legalizing the drug would deal a huge blow to mexican cartels, which make big profits from selling marijuana on the black market. The resolution goes before councilors tonight and if passed is still only symbolic.
Forward steps.
SYMBOLIC? Great
el paso should look into legalizing marijauna and taxing it 14 states already do. marijuana is alot safer than booze and cigs.Tax and Regulate Marijuana:
60% to 70% of the money funding violent drug cartels in Mexico comes from marijuana sales in the U.S. Ending marijuana prohibition would paralyze these criminal gangs, just like ending alcohol prohibition paralyzed booze runners in the 1930s.
Ending marijuana prohibition would save the American taxpayer between $10 and $41 billion annually.
89% of marijuana arrests are for simple possession, not sale or manufacture. Couldn’t our law enforcement resources be put to better use against violent criminals?
