IOGear 2-Port Dual-Link DVI KVMP Switch with 7.1 Audio and Cables

I have two problems with this KVM. First it isn’t working properly with my MS X5 Sidewinder Mouse. If I plug the mouse into the mouse port on the KVM it doesn’t function correctly. The X5 is a high resolution gaming mouse so I assume that’s the problem. If I use the provided USB port on the KVM it works fine.
The second problem is the MiniViewDVI appears to “remember” the resolution of the computers attached. When booting the attached computers the text based startup screens aren’t being displayed on the Dell 3007 30″ monitor (DVI-D) I have attached. This doesn’t happen if I connect the computers directly.
When both computers connected are fully booted and displaying their graphical interfaces (Vista and XP) and if I have the mouse plugged into the USB port all works as advertised.
I have a call into tech support. I’ll update this review later with results.

I have several problems with this device:
- it simply doesn’t work with wireless keyboards/mice. Ones without a scroll-lock key (many) are impossible to use with his switch. They do supposedly have options for reprogramming the “switching keys”, but they are impossible to understand (I’m an engineer), and don’t work (probably for the same reason the wireless doesn’t work in the first place). (Check out other reviews on the web for more info on this if you have, or ever plan to have, wireless peripherals)).
IOGEAR: how about getting some native speakers to write the documentation for you (i.e. English-for-English, Chinese-for-Chinese. etc…), and at least make work what you document ?
- it’s next to impossible to get an answer out of IOGear customer service department. They have canned answers for most questions, and simply fire these off if your question hits any of their keywords. They aren’t the little bit interested in helping customers use these switches. I even copied their sales department out of frustration, and was equally ignored. My question was “What wireles mice/keyboards DO work with your device”. There answer was a terse form-email “blah, blah…. may or may not work, blah, blah” . They had no interest whatsoever in assisting me beyond that. At least my experience is consistent with many others on the web when dealing with IOGEAR on their KVM switches.
In short – if you want to use a wireless keyboard or mouse, this device will not function correctly. Try to contact them for assistance – and I’ll look forward to seeing your rant here as well.

This worked perfectly for what I needed! Now if it were only a quarter of the price we’d REALLY have something here! So right out of the box you can tell this thing is quality. Very solid build and small considering all the connections it has to support. All the cables you need are included. I bought this to bounce back and forth between my Mac Mini and PC so they could both share my 30″ monitor. Note: for the mac to output 2560×1600 res the dual-link dvi adapter had to be purchased. I really only use this KVM for the monitor switching, and perhaps at times the USB port switching, but I was VERY impressed with the good amount of options for various configurations it has. Overall I think its a great product, I just wish these devices were at least half the cost.

I was worried that I needed to get a USB keyboard when buying this switch but was positively surprised that it has a PS/2 to USB converter that lets me connect my old (beloved) click keyboard to the switch. I’m using a MacBook Pro and a PC and both work flawlessly. The fact that I can customize the hotkey is very nice, it now works like my old cybex switchview. The audio switching is a nice bonus too. I used a lot of kvm switches in the past with all kinds of problems and have to say that this one seems to be exceptionally robust and error free. Well done!!! Highly recommended!

Works exactly as advertised. I use it with a Mac Mini (running OS X) and MacBook Pro (running Vista) and a Dell 24″ FP. Both via DVI and both at 1900×1200. I have a logitech wireless mouse and Microsoft Digital Media Pro keyboard. These are plugged into the proper mouse and keyboard ports on the switch and they work fine including the extended keys (media, shortcuts, etc.) (Other reveiwers have mentioned they need to go into a proper USB port)
Went for this model as it was the only one actually rated for 1900×1200 or higher and may upgrade to 30″ monitor soon, so will need the extended res (2500×1900) if I do.
As yet I haven’t tried the USB hub capabilities and not interested in the sound aspects.
Previoulsy, I had this model and it also worked flawlessly

@Nicholas
That looks like the GCS1782. This KVM does carry keyboard and mouse emulation and that is most likely causing the problem with the mouse. The mouse emulation can be turned off and this should help with the mouse problems. The directions for turn mouse emulation off can be found starting on page 21 of the user manual.

The monitor issue may be something else completely. We do recommend that you keep the focus of the KVM on a computer until it comes to a desktop. This allows the KVM to pass the EDID information from the monitor to the computer. This will help with any resolution problems. But your description sounds like you can not see the POST of the computer. Why the KVM would pass the POST images I am not sure. Can you try using a different monitor as one of the trouble shooting steps?
Thanks,
