My infant is developing a cold is there any suggestions what I should give him?
My infant is seven months old. I give him PolyViSol vitamins everyday, but is this all he needs for his cold. I recently saw on the news that it is not good to give over the counter medicines to children under two, because at one point I gave him Triaminac; but now I am skeptical about what I should give him. Try a saline nasal spray for babies. It works wonders on my son’s stuffy nose. Also a cool mist humidifier would work great. Vicks makes a really good one, and you can add some of the Vicks solution to it and that would help clear up your sons chest and nose. Colds are bad for kids, but there are lots of things you can do to help them. Also you could try infant tylenol. My son’s doctor told me that it is perfectly safe to take. Yikes, Triaminac to a 7 month old, they have recalled everything for colds and coughs for infants, you shouldn’t use them at all. If the cold persists or gets real bad call the pediatrician. Good luck
don’t give him any medicine they don’t get rid of the cold they only cover up the symptoms. put a humidifier in his room and just love him. the worst of the cold will pass in 1-2 days and he will be fine. you can also use saline and a bulb syringe for his nose.
Stick with a humidifier and saline. Thats about all you can do. If they have a fever you can use tylenol. Remember colds have to be waited out until they go away. You really can’t do much for them.
depending on his weight. my baby is around 22 lbs and she gets 1/4 tsp of benedryl to help dry up the runny nose.
I know that all parents use something different and it’s hard to make a decision based on what people say. All I know is that I’ve had 5 children (two sets of twins & one in between) and anyway the dr. told me with my first set of twins to get Pedia Care when they had their first cold. That was 13 years ago and I’ve used it with all of my other children.
I like it because It’s made especially for babies. It’s concentrated so it comes in a very small bottle with a tiny little dropper so they don’t have to swallow much medicine. That’s good because it’s hard to give medicine to a baby. All of my children have done really well with Pedia Care.
Also, putting a humidifier in the baby’s room while he sleeps is good for a cold. Wal Mart sells a Vicks vaporizer with a solution you put into the humidifier to help open up the baby’s airways. It’s only about $10. I hope this helps. Good luck and I hope your baby gets better soon!
