This is the cheapest way to get vista that I know of. However, of course it has all the faults that microsoft is famous for. Buy a mac and make your life easier.
Not sure if the developers version installs easily on a barebones pc, but it installed without trouble on a second partition on a macbook. In that situation at least it is not worth buying the non-developers version
I give it five out of five for price, and 1 out of five because its vista, making three out of five overall.

I needed to install some version of a Windows OS on my Mac to use Bentley’s autocad software. I went with Vista Home Basic for the price as well as the ability to upgrade to Windows 7 if needed. I run this using Parallels Desktop for Mac I got from a MacUpdate promo earlier this year. I had no problems getting Vista installed and running under Parallels, and after a month of use I have experienced no crashes using Vista. Not my OS of choice, but it works for what I need it for, and that’s great.
